        • Subject: Mary Ann & Geraldine Feodora Hyde
        • Date: c1866
        • Photographer: Daniel Jones, 66 Bold St & 11 Church St, Liverpool
        • Found: England

Geraldine Feodora was born in 1863 Hampstead, Middlesex to parents Henry Barry Hyde and Mary Ann née Bird.

Births Mar 1863
HYDE  Geraldine Feodore    Hampstead  1a 557

Because of the photo being taken in Liverpool I was unsure at first as to whether I had the right family until I found them in the 1871 census living in West Derby, Lancashire, up until then they had only been associated with Ireland and London.

Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 3843; Folio: 118; Page: 4; GSU roll: 841925.

Geraldine’s younger sister, Mabel Mary, was born in Liverpool and I estimate Geraldine’s age in the photo to be about 3 or 4, that as well as M A being the initials of Geraldine’s mother makes me think I have the right family.

Henry Barry was a Banker on various levels in each census, he and two of the elder children were born in Ireland although mother Mary Ann was born in London as were the rest of the children except for the youngest Mabel Mary.

In 1883 Geraldine married Arthur Henry Barrett Brittain {Rev Canon} and from the following information I found in Wikisource it seems they had one son & one daughter. I was unable to find Arthur & Geraldine in any census after they were married until the 1911 when they were living in Towcester, Northamptonshire with their son Arthur Hyde Brittain aged 14. It looks like they might have been in India during those years.

So interested to read about Geraldine Feodora Hyde, my great great aunt! I am descended from her elder brother Henry Barry Hyde. I don;t actually have any more on her than you have found and I also possess a copy of that photograph.

Hi Rachel, I tried leaving a comment on your own blog but it's not working. Contact me if you'd like to have the photo as I still have it and you may as well have two copies of it :). You'll find my email address in my profile.
